News of the death of Czech President Vaclav Havel filled my head with music.

If you’ve ever been to Prague, you’ll know the River Vltava that flows through it.

From Prague Castle, which was Havel’s seat during his years as President, you look down over the city and watch the river snake off into the distance.

As a teenager, I studied Smetana’s tone poem ‘Ma Vlast,’ and in particular the movement ‘Vltava.’

It’s music that paints vivid pictures, so if you don’t know it, then let the music do its magic.

May Vaclav Havel rest in peace.
