This being the May bank holiday weekend in the UK, the weather is typically unseasonal.

But it’s the start of Summer with its swarms and swarms of music festivals and events in the great outdoors.

One of the performers I’ll hope to catch during the next few months at one of these gatherings is the fantastic Scottish singer-songwriter Karine Polwart.

She’s playing tonight at the Bristol Folk Festival, with more gigs and festival dates to follow culminating in Cambridge in July and Shrewsbury in August.

We’re promised a new album too, and if you’re a lover of melody and insightful lyrics, then Karine’s your woman.

‘This Earthly Spell’ (Hegri Music) from 2008 is an album choc-a-bloc with fine songs, and regular hearings via my iPod have confirmed my view as to their quality.

I’ve also enjoyed seeing her perform ‘live’ at regular intervals since her breakthrough to a wider audience around 2005.

So if you’re able to make any of her gigs, then I urge you to find your way into the crowd.

You’ll emerge more in touch with your emotions and the world around you.

And that’s my personal guarantee.
