cropredy 2012

A matter of a few miles from where I sit writing this, one of the best-loved Summer music festivals in the UK is underway.

Cropredy 2012 began last night with headliners Squeeze entertaining what is always a sell-out crowd of around 20,000.

After months and months of rain, the next few days look like being sunny and warm.

So all involved will be breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Over the years, the festival line-up has moved away from pure folk and acoustic music to embrace the mainstream with, for example, UB40 and Status Quo in recent years.

This year, Joan Armatrading joins the ranks of those who have enjoyed the delights of playing in the Oxfordshire countryside.

My only Cropredy visit in 2007 saw Fairport Convention, who organise Cropredy each year, performing their classic ‘Liege and Lief’ album.

Again blessed by good weather, it was a magical evening.

This year’s festival goers will be hoping Cropredy 2012 is another vintage event.
