In the week when the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles ‘Love Me Do’ is being celebrated, it’s slightly ironic that tonight’s doc slot on BBC Four is about Jeff Lynne and ELO.
I’ve never really bought the Beatles copyist tag attached to Lynne’s work as both songwriter and producer.
Virtually every successful musician of the past five decades can point to the Fab Four as an influence.
And their music has been all the better because of it.
No, to my ears, Jeff Lynne writes good songs, plain and simple, and they have a distinctive sound – with or without strings.
What’s clear in the attached clip is that a decent record collection still counts for a lot.
And that his falsetto is still in good order

I agree with the above. Somehow I missed what is obviously a great documentary. My friend saw it and said it was fab.
Any one got any ideas how to view it now ?
Happy New Year to one & all. xx
Is the whole documentary available online anywhere? It was unfortunately pulled from Youtube recently for copyright reasons. What is the point of making a doco on such an amazing band if no one can see it????!!!
How can I watch this????? Please I need to watch.
There are various clips still available on this link – http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01n3yf4
