The autobiography season is well underway with the Christmas book market cranking up.

But there are pearls among the swine of soap stars and reality tv wannabes less-than-enthralling stories.

Pete Townshend of The Who is one of the people who helped write the rules of rock songwriting.

Last night in a ‘Front Row’ special on BBC Radio 4, he spoke with John Wilson about his just published autobiography ‘Who I Am’ (HarperCollins).

It proved to be a rollercoaster half hour in keeping with Townshend’s life and work.

So I won’t spoil it for you, but just to say that if you like rock music and radio’s ability to capture the sparks in a conversation, this is a must listen.
