carol singing

Tonight sees the start of Christmas in my musical life with the final rehearsal for the CBSO Christmas Concerts.

Under the audience-friendly slogan, ‘Festive Favourites With Alan Titchmarsh,’ we’ll be performing a selection of carols and seasonal music with our family of choruses and the CBSO over the weekend.

It’s always a fantastic occasion, bringing together family and friends in the run-up to Christmas.

And this year, Alan Titchmarsh is reprising his role as performer of seasonal poems and writings to add to the warm glow around the place.

Musically, I’m particularly looking forward to performing Gordon Thornett’s arrangement of ‘See Amid The Winter’s Snow.’

Gordon is a long-serving member of the CBSO Chorus and in recent years has used his composing and arranging skills to bring new life to familiar texts.

‘See Amid The Winter’s Snow’ was a big hit with the choir and audiences when it was first performed a few years back.

And as you can see from this YouTube clip, it’s now made its way to snowier parts of the world as part of their Christmas celebrations.

  1. Thanks for the mention, Dave. It’s always great to have appreciation and support expressed by colleagues, and I hope you will enjoy performing this setting of mine along with the rest of the Christmas programme. Incidentally, the Norwegian Boys’ Choir featured on the youtube clip have just brought out a Christmas CD, which includes this piece.
