sing to the moon

It’s only a few short months since I first became aware of the singer-songwriter Laura Mvula and wrote a blog about her and her music just before Christmas.

One of the finalists in the BBC’s ‘Sound of 2013,’ the buzz about Laura has been building and building.

And now we have her debut album ‘Sing To The Moon’ (RCA), critically lauded with lots of 4 and 5-star reviews in the glossy music mags and quality papers.

Yesterday on its official release day, I listened to the first instalment of Tracey Thorn’s ‘Bedsit Disco Queen’ (Virago) on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Book of the Week’ and then headed for iTunes to download Laura’s album.

All I can tell you is that it’s a record which lives up to expectations – and then some.

What is obvious is that this is the perfect time to see Laura ‘live’ before she starts playing venues where she needs the benefit of big screens to be seen by her audience.

So if you are in the UK in the next week, check out the gig list on her website and get along.

If you’re in any doubt about whether to buy the album, seeing her perform will undoubtedly seal the deal.
