the hitmaker

Few programme titles can be more accurate than tonight’s BBC Four documentary about the great Nile Rodgers.

As a founding member of Chic, as a songwriter and as a producer, he’s left his mark on lots of great music created since the late 1970s.

In the early days of this blog, I championed his then new memoir ‘Le Freak: An Upside Down Story of Family, Disco and Destiny’ (Sphere).

It’s a seriously good read and a rollercoaster ride through the disco era of the late 70s and early 80s with all its excesses.

So the new documentary ‘Nile Rodgers: The Hitmaker’ has some wonderful source material by way of songs and performance clips – plus a steller list of talkings heads who’ve benefitted from his talents.

Thre’s a clip on the programme website which gives a flavour of what’s in store, and my ‘C’est Chic’ blogpost has several music clips to underline the point.
