what china crisis?

The latest edition of  ‘The Word’ magazine has a  ‘Where are they now?’ article – this one featuring two-hit wonders from the 1980s.

The article kicks off with China Crisis, who if my memory and the Guinness Book of Hit Singles are to be relied upon, chalked up a few more than two hits during their brush with fame.

Always had a soft spot for the lads from Kirkby, partly because of playing in the Merseyside Youth Orchestra with their reeds man, and also because Walter Becker of Steely Dan produced their best album, ‘Flaunt The Imperfection.’

It’s more than two decades since they sold records in any meaningful quantity, but as the article reveals, China Crisis are regulars on ‘Rewind’ tours around the globe and are still gigging, playing two concerts at the Cavern in their home city in December.

Ultimately, it’s all about the songs and to my ears, the China Crisis catalogue is full of its fair share of gems.
